Lamar Odom follows in the footsteps of Kim's man Kanye West

Now that he's no longer playing for an NBA team, Lamar Odom has a lot of free time on his hands.

So much time in fact that he ventured out to a local shop in New York to get a gold 'grill' to cover his teeth.

Lamar treated wife Khloe and her sister Kim Kardashian to a tour of his old neighbourhood of Jamaica, Queens in New York City, as they filmed the newest season of Keeping Up with the Kardashians.

Kim, 31, and Khloe, 27, were all smiles as they hung out with the 32-year-old former Dallas Mavericks player.

The NBA star took the two to a flea market near his childhood home for a round of discount shopping.

They picked up new trainers and later stopped by a shop that offers dental 'grills.' 

An attendant fitted Lamar for a gold grill as cameras rolled on all the action.
The dental accessories have soared in popularity after they were sported by a series of hip-hop stars including Ludacris, Lil Jon and Kanye West.

While they are usually made of gold, West showed off a sparkling diamond set in October of 2010 on Ellen.
He told the chat show host: 'I just thought that diamonds were cooler.'
However, grills have been denounced by some critics as superficial displays that strain the finances of poor youth.

It's unclear if Lamar was serious about wearing a grill or if he was just having a bit of fun.
Shooting the series is a welcome change for the basketball player who has been dealing with his much publicized departure from the Mavericks.

Lamar spent just four troubled months with the team after his surprise transfer from the Los Angeles Lakers back in December.

According to ESPN, the team has listed him as 'inactive' for the remainder of the season.
That means he could be traded to another team when the season ends.

Some commentators claimed that his involvement with the Kardashians, including starring in his own reality show Khloe and Lamar, caused him to lose focus on the basketball court.
